Q: What is the difference between Uninsured (UM) and Underinsured (UIM) coverage?

A: While they sound similar, they are different. In Missouri, policies described as "full coverage" are required to include Uninsured Motorist (UM) Coverage, which protects you if you are hit by a driver with no insurance at all. Underinsured Motorist (UIM) Coverage is separate and protects you when the at-fault driver has insurance, but their policy limits are too low to cover your total damages.
