Q: How does UIM coverage work?

A: UIM coverage bridges the gap between your total damages and the at-fault driver's limited policy. For example, if you have $1 million in UIM coverage and are injured by a driver with only the state minimum $25,000 policy, you can first collect the $25,000 from their insurance. Then, if the value of your case justifies it, you can make a claim against your own UIM policy for up to an additional $1 million to cover the remaining damages.
